For the last 25 years, the country was plagued by economic crisis, human trafficking and mass migration of young people. Recently, 1 billion Dollars was stollen from the National Bank by government. Former prime-minister is under investigation for his role in this "affair of the century."
Since the collapse of the USSR in 1991, a number of countries (Rep. Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine) went through revolutions and change of government as people tried to put an end to widespread corruption and endless power struggle among politicians.
Moldova is governed by people who claim to be pro-European and pro-Western but disagreements among them are many and, unfortunately, level of corruption is unprecedented.
According to reports from Moldova, thousands of people surrounded the Parliament building on January 20, 2016. They broke through the lines of police and stormed into the building. There were casualties among demonstrators and police. Luckily for them, all Parliament members but one were able to leave the building through the underground bunker. The one who ended up on the street, was beaten and called traitor of the country.
Protesters demand dialogue with the government, which so far refuses to talk and meet their demands. Every day, more than 10,000 people are protesting in the downtown Chisinau, the capital city. Violence can erupt with new force at any time. U.S. Embassy in Moldova attempts to promote dialogue among the parties involved in conflict.
In the face of this situation, we would like to ask you to pray for people of Moldova. May God give wisdom to leaders of protesters and government officials in finding a solution to the current crisis, which brought new hardships to the people. Please, pray for safety of my parents and my brother Vitali's family. Pray for continuous mission involvement to help people of Moldova.
