Reason for the Season: Why Not Have an Early Christmas?

By Oleg Turlac

You know that many malls and stores already brought Christmas stuff in and put in Christmas decorations. Though in our tolerant Western culture the message of Christmas is often substituted with "Happy Holidays" voices, I still see occasionally "Merry Christmas" written on cards and on merchandise here and there. I guess, stores have to cater to us, Christian folks that still celebrate Christmas. And there are many of us, right? If they remove Christmas entirely, we will go to shop elsewhere. Right.

Of course, retail chains have their own interests for bringing in Christmas stuff this early. But you know, I love Christmas. I love diving into the spirit of Christmas and hearing "God rest ye, merry gentlemen," and other carols over and over again. In fact, I already started playing Christmas music in our home and began reflecting upon the event of Christ's birth. To me the birth of Christ is an awesome event. I am prepared to celebrate it all year around because for me Christ is the reason for the season. And if everything around me reminds me of Christmas, so be it!

"For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
(Isaiah 9:6)
